DES MOINES – Every Republican in Iowa who holds statewide or federal office is endorsing Paul Pate’s bid for reelection. Pate announced last week he is seeking a fourth term as Iowa Secretary of State.

U.S. Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley, U.S. House Representatives Randy Feenstra, Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Governor Kim Reynolds, Lt. Governor Adam Gregg, Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, and former Governor Terry Branstad all support Paul Pate.

DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is encouraging every high school in Iowa to conduct a voter registration drive on Tuesday, Feb. 22. The date coincides with the birthday of first U.S. President George Washington and will also be “Twosday” on the numerical calendar, 2/22/22.

“Engaging young people in civics is a great way to inspire them to be active citizens throughout their lives,” Secretary Pate said. “It’s vital for students to learn that registering to vote and participating in elections is the best way to make sure their voices are heard. I hope every high school in Iowa will participate in this statewide event.”

Iowa launched a new statewide alliance Thursday to combat human trafficking.

The Iowa Business Against Trafficking (IBAT) initiative asks Iowa employers to promote awareness of human trafficking prevention resources. Businesses have to do two things each year to participate in the coalition: educate their employees and customers on the signs of human trafficking, and take action to prevent it by sharing resources.

“We are building an army to battle human trafficking,” Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate said at a news conference Thursday.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate and Hy-Vee will join forces to pay tribute to Iowa’s military men and women on Veterans Day. On Thursday, November 11, Hy-Vee stores across the state will distribute a free breakfast to all veterans and active-duty military in gratitude of their service to our country. Hy-Vee will also circulate the Iowa Secretary of State’s “Honor A Veteran” postcards, encouraging customers to pay tribute to a loved one who served our country.

“Veterans Day is about saying thank you and recognizing the sacrifice of those who defended our freedoms,” Secretary Pate said. “Since our statehood nearly 175 years ago, Iowans have risen to the task. I’m honored once again to work with Hy-Vee to pay tribute to these brave men and women.”

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says there was “a pretty big uptick” in voter turn out for yesterday’s city and school board elections in Polk, Linn and Black Hawk Counties.

“The early voting was significantly higher in the major urban counties,” Pate says. “Some of them were seeing almost twice as many absentees as they had in 2019.”

Voter turn-out in Black Hawk County will be at least double what it was for city and school board elections two years ago. Pate says voter participation has been trending up in most elections over the past six years.

DES MOINES, Iowa —
More Iowans made their voices heard this time around, nearly 67,000 more.

In 2019, roughly 358,000 Iowans voted in local elections. On Tuesday, 425,000 cast their ballot, and we’re still waiting on numbers from two counties.

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says the early indicators were there, and he was hoping for record turnout. He says we’re seeing a wave of people tuning in to issues and that’s driving the peak in interest.
